Couple ordered to pay $1.6 million to EB-5 investor who spent $1.5 million

A California federal court has ordered Sophie Harrison (who also goes by the names Sophia Wang, Xianqin Wang Harrison, Xianqin Wang and Xueqing Wang) and her husband to pay $1.6 million to an investor who gave them $1.5 million for a condo project that never started. The Harrisons had agreed to a 2018 settlement of $1.1 million but never paid; the couple alleges the investor breached terms of the settlement by posting defamatory statements about Sophie Harrison.Law360 article (subscription required)
